Find out about crystal meth at Arena Grand forum

by Chris Hughes

Columbus-The Columbus AIDS Task Force is presenting two major events during Pride Month.

First, find out what Tina is up to in the community and come discuss your views on "Crystal Meth Use and HIV Transmission in the Columbus GLBT Community" on June 14 at a forum co-sponsored by Stonewall Columbus, the Men 4 Men Project of CATF and BRAVO at 6:30 pm in the Arena Grand Theatre, 175 W. Nationwide Blvd.

A panel presentation and public forum will discuss the realities of how this drug is used in our community and the impacts it is having. Tied into the discussion will be thoughts on how it relates to HIV transmission. Please join us and share your thoughts on this very important topic.

Then, have Pride in being tested! This year

National HIV Testing Day, June 27, falls on the Monday after the Columbus Pride parade and festival. In conjunction with Stonewall Columbus, the Men 4 Men Project will be offering free, rapid HIV testing at 2Co's Cabaret, 790 North High Street, from 1 pm-7 pm.

The Men 4 Men Project is Columbus's HIV prevention and testing program created by gay men for gay men. The team will be using the new OraQuick Advance, the mouth swab that develops results in 20 minutes. Combined with non-judgmental counseling techniques, this will be the most painless HIV test a gay man can get. Additionally, 2Co's has generously offered free show passes to the first 25 participants.

For further information contact Chris Hughes at 614-340-6736.

Chris Hughes is the MSM HIV prevention coordinator for the Columbus AIDS Task Force.

Wine tasting at Axis will benefit Stonewall Dems

by Kellye Pinkleton

Columbus-The Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio have announced the event details for the annual Wine Tasting Benefit, the chapter's premiere event.

This year's event will again feature the popular silent auction and a host of elected officials and candidates running in the November election. It will be held at Axis on Wednesday, August 10, 5:30 pm to 8 pm. The cost, which includes wine and light refreshments, is only $15 and all proceeds benefit the chapter's activities and support efforts throughout the year.

"Last year's event drew over 100 people,” said chapter president Sara Ernest, “and we expect this year's event to be even bigger as

many candidates have expressed an interest in attending."

"This is an opportunity for us to celebrate recent successes," she added, "such as Mary Jo Hudson's campaign and many viable democratic candidates running in the November general election."

Any community members interested in donating items for the silent auction may contact planning committee member Tony Mariani at admariani@hotmail.com.
